The A-Class
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class: What can we say other than what a truly amazing piece of automotive engineering.
We know that when you’re choosing a new car there are a lot of different things for you to consider which can be overwhelming, so we wanted to help by putting together this helpful article!
In this article we’ll cover the four main areas that you’ll want to think about when deciding which Mercedes is the right one for you. These include the body shape, trim level, lease offers and other life factors you need to consider.
There are a few different body styles and understanding what they are will help you choose the right body shape for your lifestyle and needs.
A coupe is a two door sporty car that is generally designed to be as aerodynamic and fast as possible. They will usually be a two seater but you can get some coupes with a rear passenger area, though this is usually pretty cramped.
A coupe is a great choice for drivers looking for a fast car who aren’t worried about space.
A convertible car is one that has a retractable roof to convert it into an open top vehicle. They can have either a hard or soft top and depending on the model manufacturers may even offer both versions.
Typically, a convertible will be a sportier model, usually a coupe or sleek hatchback but that doesn’t mean you can’t get larger convertibles like a convertible SUV.
If you like to feel the wind in your hair as you drive then a convertible is a fantastic option for you!
Hatchbacks get their name from their boot as it opens upwards like a hatch. They’re generally smaller models than saloon or estate versions but there is no set size or shape design for them so you’ll find a whole range of different sizes and styles within this sector. You can get compact two-seater hatchbacks up to large enough for the whole family to fit comfortable hatches, and if you’re looking for something that brings the thrill back to driving then there’s also hot hatches.
The hatchback sector is really diverse so if you’re looking for a new car it’s a great place to start no matter what your requirements are.
Saloon cars are similar to hatchbacks in terms of size and structure, but they tend to have a completely separate cargo area that you can’t access from the rear seats. Design wise, saloons also tend to be a little sleeker and longer for additional passenger room which gives them more of an executive feel making them a popular choice for business drivers.
Estate cars are essentially hatchbacks with a big boot, which is why you’ll often find estate versions of a hatchback model such as the MERC C Class and the C Class Estate.
Until recently they were considered quite boxy as they were designed to provide maximum cargo space but designs have evolved and they’ve become much more stylish.
If you need a lot of space for luggage but don’t want to compromise on the number of passengers you can carry then an estate car would be perfect for you.
A Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) is one that’s designed to be a little more capable off road and most SUVs can handle what the UK has to throw at them.
They have a higher ground clearance, four-wheel-drive and other optional systems, including adaptive suspension to make sure they have as smooth a ride as possible. A lot of drivers find the higher driving position and larger body shape gives them a greater sense of security and we’ve seen an uptake in drivers who want an SUV without any intention of off-roading.
H3 Mercedes Names and Body Shapes
We recently wrote about how the Mercedes naming system works and how these relate to the body shapes.
Generally, what you need to know though is that anything with a G in it such as a G Class or GLA will be an SUV or lightweight SUV (GL) and anything with a S in the name will be a sportier model, so have a sleeker coupe look to it.
If you want a more in depth breakdown of the Mercedes naming then read this article.
Another consideration you want to make is how many doors you need your car to have. If you have young children in car seats, or often have multiple passengers then you won’t want a car with just two doors.
There are still some models that are 2 doors including C Class variants so you’ll want to make sure you check that the car you are interested in has enough doors as well as space for your daily needs.
One thing to be mindful of when making this, and any other decision, is a lease agreement will last between two and four years so the car doesn’t just need to suit your needs now but also your expected future needs for the next few years.
Across all models, there will be different trim levels for you to choose from. The number of trims available will vary between model ranges so we generally advise you take a look or ask us about the features available across all specs and then decide on the features that you need and what trim level offers them on the model you’re interested in.
Another important factor you’ll need to consider when deciding on the right Mercedes for you is the cost of the car.
We work hard to get the best Mercedes leasing prices possible so you might find you get a great deal on a particular spec of one model that you might not have considered or that for just a few pounds extra you can get a better model. We always recommend looking at all the models which may be suitable for your needs and seeing what deals we’ve got at that time.
Ultimately it will be up to you to decide which Mercedes is the right one for you but we’re always here to help if you need it, just give us a call on 0330 772 1419.
